A transition in hockey is when one team gains possession of the puck from the opposing team and makes their way down the ice with an opportunity to score a goal. Welcome to the Former NHL Player Special Series on Stop Riding the Pine.
All of the players I had the privilege of interviewing not only played professional ice hockey, but they successfully transitioned from the NHL to the world of business. You’ll get a chance to meet former NHL players and listen to their stories on how they achieved great results after their playing days.
Not only is this great content, but I wanted to highlight these former players and share their stories about what is was like playing hockey at the highest level with you, the Opiners.
During our conversations, we get to go into the locker rooms of past and catch a glimpse of what the players got to experience. We get to find out what they did to become successful off the ice. Having a passion for the sport both as a player and as a fan, it was an honor to have spent time talking to these incredible people.
As a listener, you will get to hear first hand how they overcame amazing obstacles to do what they wanted most in life. So you know, you have a better chance of winning the lottery than you do of getting the opportunity to play in the National Hockey League. That is an amazing feat in and of itself, but it’s what these incredible people did away from the spotlight that is intriguing.
Yes, I’m biased, but these are some of the most amazing people I’ve ever had the chance to meet. They do so much for the sport and give back to their community. They are generous, kind, and are always eager to lend a helping hand. Using their experience and resources to help so many people is inspirational to say the least.
The “Former NHL Player Special Series” will launch during the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs. These special podcast episodes will air intermittently within our regular episodes and will have a little bit of a different feel.
These episodes will always be available as long as Stop Riding the Pine is a podcast so you can catch them anytime, but you should subscribe to the show so you receive the episodes the moment they go live.
My goal is to transcribe all these interviews into a book and will announce the launch of the book soon. We are going to donate 100% of the net proceeds to the various charities including the St. Louis Blues Alumni Association.
Hockey is an incredible sport and was a big part in the motivation to begin this podcast.
Stop Riding the Pine, a sports analogy for “Get Off the Bench”, is the theme of this show and every one of these players have clearly demonstrated that figuratively and literally.
